From your Service Officer:
At the recent Legion Conference in Nashville, I had the opportunity to attend the Post Service-Officer Workshop.
I learned a bunch, but a key takeaway for me was a little talked about entitlement that is available for veterans with a service connected disability rating or survivors (spouse, children, or even parents of deceased veterns). This benefit is named Deendency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC)
DIC is a tax free monetary benefit generally payable to elibigble survivors of military service members who died in the line of duty or survivors of veterans whos death resulted from a service-related injury or disease. DIC may also be paid to :certain survivors” of veterans whose death resulted were “totally disabled” from service-connected conditions at the time of death.
Many in our post fit that last bit!
